3. arizmendi, 3265 lakeshore, 4301 san pablo - collectively-owned bakery with good coffee and pastries, daily pizza made from organic everything. totally delicious.
4. the breakroom, 300 13th - vegan/vegetarian sandwiches.
5. cam huong, 920 webster - tofu or vegetarian sandwiches for $2.50.
6. cha-ya sushi, 1686 shattuck - vegan sushi. not cheap, but worth it.
7. the cheeseboard, 1504 shattuck - see "arizmendi."
8. cole coffee, 307 63rd - this coffee will fuck you up. awesome.
9. fellini, 1401 university - vegan and regular brunch on the weekends, daily dinner. "vegan-only pans." sorta "fine dining."
10. golden lotus, 1301 franklin - decent vegan vietnamese food. worst service imaginable.
11. gordo's, 2989 college, 1423 solano - mainly "standing room only" burrito and taco shops. quick and easy.
12. great wall, 6247 college - standard vegan/veg chinese food. cheap lunch specials. they also serve seafood.
13. herbivore, 2451 shattuck - good vegan restaurant. kinda fusion cuisine.
14. lanesplitter pizza and pub, 2033 san pablo, 4799 telegraph - 2 slices of vegan cheese pizza and a soda for $6.25. super punk friendly, and good beer, too. rotating art shows.
15. long life vegi house, 2129 university - see "great wall."
16. mama buzz cafe, 2318 telegraph - art gallery/showspace/coffee shop. good sandwiches, free wifi. this is where burning man people and art school kids get their morning fix.
17. nabolom bakery, 2708 russell - see "arizmendi," preface with "anarchist-," and add a good selection of vegan, wheat-free, and gluten-free items. always tons of discount "day-olds."
.....people's donuts, available at cole, fellini, whole foods, etc. - punk-owned vegan donut company. find 'em all over.
18. pizza plaza, 6211 shattuck - entire vegan pizza menu. not cheap, but worth it.
19. revolution cafe, 1610 7th - the only place to get coffee anywhere near most of oakland's punk houses.
T. smart alec's, 2355 telegraph - regular and vegan burgers, with fries and soda and shit. they call it "healthy fast food."
20. souley vegan, 301 broadway - vegan soul food. homemade juices.
21/T. top dog, 2534 durant, 2503 hearst, 5100 broadway, 2160 center, 499 14th - their veggie dog is vegan. 'nuff said.
22. tuk tuk thai, 2468 shattuck. standard fare thai food where you can replace the meat in pretty much any dish with tofu or gluten. and they're open hella late.
23. vik's chaat house, 726 allston - cheap as fuck indian sweets and samosas.

MUSIC STORES:
24. al lasher's, 1734 university - weird hours, but worth it for oddly specific old parts for your amp or home stereo gear.
25. best music, 1716 broadway - all instruments, not just "rock band" stuff.
26. leo's pro audio, 5447 telegraph - if you're fixing your own band gear, this is where to buy the parts. plus they run a pirate radio station out of the back!
27. starving musician, 2474 shattuck - tons of used gear, cheap strings, cool pedals, great selection, knowledgeable staff with surly attitudes. cool.

GROCERY STORES:
28. berkeley bowl, 2020 oregon, 920 heinz - amazing produce selection. everything else is insanely overpriced.
29. layonna's, 443 8th - vegan/veg asian fake meat market. read labels very carefully. recommended: vegan goose liver. f'real.
30. mandela foods co-op, 1430 7th st - the east bay's only co-op grocery store.
31. monterey market, 1550 hopkins - weird organic products and decent produce.
32. pak n save, 3889 san pablo - you know safeway? this is where they sell their overstock. cheap and generic groceries, sketchy produce, open mad late.
33. trader joe's, 5700 christie ave, 3250 lakeshore, 5727 college - the necessary evil, with three locations to serve you!
34. whole foods, 3000 telegraph, 230 bay pl. (27th and harrison) - see "trader joe's," except there's only two.

PARKS:
35. adventure playground, 160 university - hippies building play structures out of found and donated materials for little kids. hop the fence at night for maximum awesome.
36. berkeley skate park, 1100 4th - large bowl and street course, unmonitored, and only four blocks from gilman.
37. codornices park, 1201 euclid - concrete slide! b.y.o. cardboard if you like your pants having an ass on them.
38. indian rock, 950 indian rock - it's a big fucking rock you can climb on. awesome sunset view.
39. lake temescal, 6500 broadway - local swimming hole. relax and barbeque. park on the street so you don't have to pay.
40. the landfill/albany bulb, where buchanan meets the bay - give hippies a landfill for thirty years and see what weird art shit they make. highlights: the bicycle graveyard, the castle, the library. set aside an entire afternoon and expect to get lost in it.
41. middle harbor shoreline park, west end of 7th - see the shipping container loaders that george lucas based the "at-ats" from star wars on while "sitting on the dock of the bay."
T. people's park, between dwight and haste above telegraph - where winos nap, cal students play basketball, someone's always learning to play an instrument, and high schoolers get ripped of on weed.
***note: this is where food not bombs is served every weekday around three in the afternoon.***
42. tilden, grizzly peak blvd - go for a hike, or swim in lake anza. hella nature, dude.
43. town park, 1651 adeline - outdoor wood skate park in west oakland. volunteer built and run.

44. 924 gilman st. - 21 years and counting! all ages, drug and alcohol free, volunteer run, nonprofit show space. up the punx.
45. 99 cent store, 1440 7th, 1941 san pablo, 2440 shattuck - fuck it, why not? and besides, insanely cheap canned goods.
46. abandoned train station, 16th and wood - exactly what you think it is. climb on the roof for the only view of oakland without the bay behind it. watch out for the security guard: he's in a black sedan, and he's armed.
47. biofuel oasis, 1441 ashby - biofuel gas station. your resource for your hippie van.
48. the bone room, 1569 solano. bugs, bones, and assorted oddities to wear or display. creepy and neat.
49. comic relief, 2026 shattuck - got a nerd in the van? your one stop shop for all comic book related neds.
50. the dark carnival, 3086 claremont - fantasy, sci-fi, and general nerd-dom is their specialty. great rare books and weird shit you didn't know existed.

52. long haul infoshop, 3124 shattuck - this is where your slingshot organizer came from. they also print the slingshot newspaper.

T. 510 skate shop, 2500 telegraph - the best skate shop in the east bay. they also have a skate shoes and apparel store two doors down, and a high-end "collectible" shoe store across the street, next door to upper playground.
55. east bay depot for creative reuse, 4695 telegraph - every kindergarten teacher's wet dream. need 40 jewel cases, a giant ball of red yarn, and thirty-year-old issues of national geographic? this is your jam. happy rummaging!
56. urban ore, 900 murray - wanna buy a used toilet? maybe a metal cabinet? warehouse filled with tons of salvaged shit. awesome way to kill a few hours.
57. ashby flea market, ashby and adeline (sat/sun) - rummage sale in the BART station parking lot. free.
58. laney flea market, 7th and fallon (sunday only) - $1 entrance fee. old records, barbequed corn on the cob, and every tool imaginable. when in doubt, everything is stolen.
59. missing link bicycles, 1988 shattuck - collectively owned bike shop. repairs and used shit at the annex across the street. super friendly and knowledgeable staff.
60. bent spoke bikes, 6124 telegraph - cheap bike shop.
61. recycles bike shop, 3120 sacramento - cheaper bike shop.
62. manifesto bike shop, 421 40th - bike shop for the "fixed-gear enthusiast." small shop, nice folks.

64. the albatross, 1822 san pablo - bar with huge selection of board games. favorite of college students. avoid on friday/saturday during the school year. pool and darts.
65. eli's mile high club, 3629 mlk - crusty punk bar with pool table and delicious fries. weekly djs mix it up, but it's mostly metal. where everyone goes to drink after shows.
66. merchant's, 401 2nd - hipster/scumbag bar in skeezy warehouse district. go for a drink, stay for a lifetime.
67. missouri lounge, 2600 san pablo - hipster/"motorcycle enthusiast" bar with pool table. cool dj nights.
68. pyramid brewery, 901 gilman - "yupscale" microbrewed beer is made on location, across the street from gilman.
69. ruby room, 132 14th - hipster bar. as dimly lit as possible. pool table.
70. stork club, 2330 telegraph - punk-ish bar with occasional shows.
71. takara sake factory, 708 addison - tours with tastings.
72. triple rock brewery, 1920 shattuck - favorite of college kids and beer snobs.

BART is to get from point "a" to point "c" when you're just trying to get to "b." every trip costs different amounts of money, there are no reliable scams, and there's no "weekend pass" or anything, so plan accordingly. stops running around midnight. because that makes sense. at all.

(exit off of 880) goes under the freeway, behind the texaco station - the super veggie burrito is so big they use two tortillas, and you can hold it between your palm and upper arm. $6.50 for two meals in one. i'm not saying you can't finish it, i'm saying you shouldn't.
*** lucky juju pinball museum, 713 santa clara, alameda - from webster and 7th, go southwest on webster through the tunnel. come out on an island city, known for being where rockabillies go to start families. turn left on santa clara, and then left into the first parking lot. $10 gets you unlimited plays on a rotating collection of classic, restored, and current pinball macines. open from 6pm to 12am on friday and saturday nights, 4-8pm on sundays. sodas and water on the honor system - there's a fridge!
